The team provides programming year-round in competitive crew as well as offering “Learn to Row” classes and recreational rowing camps for youth and adults. Programs are run by paid experienced coaches who are passionate about rowing and who are especially devoted to working with youth. Competitive rowing (or crew) is a sport in which teamwork is essential and the rowers quickly learn that there are no individual stars – everyone has an important role to play.
Three Rivers Park has welcomed TCYR to use Bryant Lake for its on-the-water training site, conveniently located in the northeast corner of Eden Prairie. The park offers many resources to TCYR, including beautiful grounds for land training, an expansive dock and boat racks to accommodate rowing shells, safety park patrols, ample parking, restrooms, concessions and a swimming beach.
The Competitive program offers crew youth who have reached the age of 14 by the end of the current calendar year, and who graduate from high school no sooner than 2013, from schools all over the metro area to train and have fun in a team atmosphere. Girls and Boys row in 4 and 8 person shells (plus a coxswain to steer and direct the rowers). Teams race in local, regional, and national regattas. The competitive program is offered year-round.
High School Prep Camp is available for kids who are eligible to join the team this year. It is designed for those who can’t commit to a full Summer Competitive Season, or are considering joining for the Fall Season. If you tried a Learn to Row, and weren’t sure if you were ready for competition, this is the camp for you!
