A coxswain is a person who steers a boat or racing shell and is in charge of the crew. Typically a coxswain is small in stature (5’4” or under). We need coxswains on our team too!
Responsibilities
Safety: Coxswains are responsible for the safety of the crew and passengers.
Navigation: Coxswains are responsible for the safe operation and navigation of the boat.
Crew coordination: Coxswains are responsible for coordinating the crew's power and rhythm.
Communication: Coxswains call out commands to the crew, such as how fast to go and when to change technique.
Watching other boats: Coxswains watch other boats in the area to ensure safety.
